We had a very interesting visit to the minimisation centre. After decking ourselves out in high vis vests and hard hats we went on a walk around part of the centre. Everything is sorted and stored ready for recycling. The timber pile is available for people who want to use the wood for other projects. The green waste is used by a compost company to make compost. The whitewear is used by a repair man who takes the washing machines, dishwashers and fridges to use for parts or if they can be fixed, he fixes them. There is a depot for old paints and oils and other toxic substances. Some are recycled if they can be and others are destroyed properly. We saw the shop where there are motormowers, bicycles and other things that have been repaired and available for sale. Some of our tour we did by bus. We saw the floor where people dump their rubbish. It is sorted by diggers into usable, recyclable and dumpable. We saw the conveyor belt where the bottles and cans are sorted. Plastic bottles are pressed into bales and exported overseas for recycling. At the centre there is an amazing recycle garden. We had great fun on the bicycle which recycled the water through a sculpture. We though we could do that at our school!
