In Japan, the Tanabata or Star Festival is celebrated on the 7th day of the 7th month. During Tanabata, people write their wishes on strips on paper and hang them on bamboo trees along with decorations. They pray that their wishes will come true. We made three wishes. One for ourselves, one for our family and one for the community. We hung them on a bamboo branch. “Shiawasi ni naru you ni” means I wish you happiness. “Heiwa ni naru you ni” means I wish you peace. “Genki ni naru you ni” means I wish you good health. “Omedetou gozaimasu” means Congratulations. We also made some origami Stairs to Heaven. They needed to be cut correctly or they didn’t work.

I loved that you could make a wish for your self, you would not believe what i wished for. It was really fun making the stairway to heaven even though i failed a lot. I hope we can do it again next year if i’m in your class!!!!!!!:)
That was so fun to make and make three wishes
and put them on the tree.
They looked so cool when you are done.
It’s a very interesting story. I like how it says how to say some things in Japanese. Anthony
