This term in Maths we have been studying time. Last week when the Year 7s were at manual we had a go at making sundials out of an old CD and a CD case.
We used an app to find our lattitude in NZ, which is -36 degrees. That means that NZ is at an angle of 36 degrees compared to the equator, which is zero. Then we used a protractor to make our CD sit at an angle of 36 degrees. We pushed a toothpick through the middle of the CD so the sun could use it to make a rainbow-coloured shadow on the CD. The rainbow-coloured line pointed to the time on the dial.
And guess what? They actually worked!
So clever! Well done, Room 6 and Mrs Murphy!
They were so fun to make too! The hard part was to find the right angle.
Next time let me make make one.
That is so cool
