This term we have been looking at healthy food options and how to check which foods are good to eat every day and which foods are only treat foods that should be eaten occasionally. Naomi, from Foodstuffs, came into school to teach us how to make good decisions about food. We learnt how to have a balanced diet and how to read the information on packages. We went to the supermarket to look at a variety of foods and we chose an unhealthy and a healthy option for bread, cereals, muesli bars, yoghurts and snacks. There were very few cereals that were suitable to eat every day. We also looked at how much sugar there is in fizzy drinks. A 600 gm bottle of coke was the equivalent of 11 teaspoons of sugar. Adults are supposed to be eating no more than 24 gms of sugar per day, children aged 7-10 should be eating no more than 30 gms per day.
