Since writing to Auckland Council we have had great feedback from Mr Braithewaite.  We were wondering what had happened to our sign and have discovered it is at Rustybrooke Transfer Centre.   We will try and retrieve it for our recycle garden.

Hello Room 5

Thank you for your letter regarding the rubbish tip nightmare at the intersection of Wayby Valley Rd and Whangaripo Valley Rd.  The site is being abused more readily and the ratepayers are the one’s who carry the costs for removing the illegal dumping.  It does appear that people in the area lack the consideration and maturity for this type of waste system to operate successfully.  Other collection points throughout the district do not have anywhere near the same amount of issues or problems.

Therefore, Council has determined to take action regarding this site.  As it has become the unofficial dump for locals and holidaymakers and is too hard to monitor and enforce, Council are closing this site down.  The site will be landscaped and contoured to make dumping difficult and signage erected stating the site is closed.  Mason Bins will service Waiteitei Rd, Tomarata Valley Rd, School Rd (Mangawhai Rd to Tomarata Valley Rd) and Wayby Valley Rd for orange bags, as you have raised in your letter.  This collection point only existed so people could dispose of their rubbish in official orange bags as they did not have a kerbside service.

A letter-drop will be carried out in the next two weeks informing residents on the aforementioned roads that a kerbside service will now be provided for orange bags and that the unofficial rubbish tip will be closed.  Sides roads will have small collection points at the adjoining intersection’s with the above new serviced roads.  It is hoped that these sites will not become the new tips for locals.  Enforcement should be easier at these new sites as covert, secure locatiosn for cameras will be more readily available.

Thank you for your letter and concerns; be assured that Council are more than aware and that we are taking appropriate action.  If you have any further suggestions or concerns, please contact me.

Regards

Marcus Braithwaite

Dear Mr Braithwaite

Thank you for your response.  We have noticed a huge improvement at the corner.   It is good to see the pile of dirt that has been put on the corner in readiness for the landscaping.  People are still dropping their rubbish there but we notice that rubbish has been quickly removed to deter others from following.  We think a lot of people will not need to use the drop off if they get a curbside pick up.

A few years ago we made and erected a sign on the corner to inform people about the drop off rules.  We were wondering where it went to because we would quite like it back to put in our recycle garden at school now it is no longer needed at the corner.

Thanks again for the action taken to improve the corner.

Dear Room 5

Thanks for the positive feedback, it is pleasing to know that things are finally improving.

Regarding the removal of your signs from the site, that was an oversight on our part and we should have spoken to you before removing them to see if you wanted them back.

Brian,

Is there any chance of getting the school’s signs back?  Did you say you dropped them off at Rustybrook?

Regards

 Marcus
